Tracks and Bicycles
You leave by the gate and walk. There is no traffic to get in the way.
The farm sits 2.8 km down a dirt track from the nearest tarmac, and that is the best thing anyone can say about walking here: there is nowhere for cars to come from.
Three routes we give you in writing
The pond loop, 4 km, an hour, flat. Round the pond, through the olive grove and back across the threshing floor. This is the late-afternoon walk, with children and with the dog.
The cork oaks, 11 km, three hours, rolling. Climbs into the montado, past two abandoned farmsteads and a well that still has its bucket. Take water, there is nothing open along the way.
The reservoir, 22 km, a full day or a ride. Comes out at the reservoir. It is long, it is beautiful, and in summer it is a before-breakfast proposition only.
We hand out the routes on paper when you arrive, and email GPX files to anyone who would rather use their phone.
Bicycles
We do not hire them out, but there is somewhere locked to keep yours and the workshop is open for putting it right. The tracks are compacted earth with loose gravel in places: a gravel bike goes everywhere, a road bike gets as far as the tarmac.
When not to go
Between eleven and five, June to September. There is no shade on the tracks and the Alentejo does not forgive inattention.
