The Workshop

This is not a workshop dressed for the photographs. It is the farm’s workshop: it is where the tractor gets fixed, where the water pump has been stripped three times this year, and where there is enough tooling to sort out most of what breaks on land twenty minutes from the nearest town.

And because it is here, it is open to whoever is staying.

What that actually means

If you have come in a camper van and something is knocking, you have space, light, a bench and shade to get your hands into it. If you are on a motorbike and want to change the oil before carrying on to the coast, there is a drain tray and somewhere proper to put the old stuff. If you are on a bicycle with a puncture or a buckled wheel, there is a stand, the tools to true it and a spare tube in the top drawer.

We do not charge for any of this. We are not a licensed garage and we will not do the job for you, but if we are about, it is rare that we manage to just stand and watch.

What is in there

Bench with a vice. Spanner sets in both imperial and metric. Drill, angle grinder, compressor and air line. Trolley jack and axle stands. Oil tray and a drum for waste oil. Bike stand and a track pump with a gauge. Extension leads and an inspection lamp. Grease, WD-40, and the roll of wire that solves half the problems in the world.

One serious note

The workshop has power tools and heavy things in it. Children only with an adult, and closed shoes always. Ask us for the key, we do not leave it in the door, for obvious reasons.
