Olive Grove Room
First light in the morning, filtered through trees older than the house.
The room sits at the top of the Casa Grande, facing east. At seven in the morning the sun comes through the window already filtered by the olive trees, and that is the only alarm clock here.
Whitewashed walls, a timber ceiling, a cool floor. There is no television. There is a chair by the window that is the best place in the house to do nothing at all.
What is outside the door
The olive grove starts twenty paces away. Through November and December that is where everyone spends their days, and anyone who wants to help with the harvest will find a pole waiting. The rest of the year it is shade and the dry sound of leaves.
The Casa Grande’s shared kitchen is downstairs, wood oven and all, and it is where everybody ends up at the end of the day.

What is in the room
House rules
- Dogs are welcome, on a lead by the chickens and the donkeys, and not on the beds.
- The pool is unattended. Children always with an adult. The pond is not for swimming.
- The workshop is a courtesy, not a licensed garage. Closed shoes. Children only with an adult.
- The last 2.8 km are a dirt track. Go slowly after rain; there are cattle and potholes.
- Check-in 15:00–20:00. Later is fine if you tell us. Check-out by 11:00.
- Fire only where we agree, and never 1 June–30 September, as the law requires.
